Heat Facts

When does heat stroke occur?

Heatstroke starts when a person’s body temperature is over 104 degrees Fahrenheit. At this point, they may start to feel disoriented, have an increased heart beat, and hallucinations. If the body temperature continues to increase to 107 degrees or higher, it leads to organ failure, which may be fatal if not treated immediately. It is important to note that the body temperature of a child increases 3-5 times faster than an adult’s, since their thermoregulatory systems are not as developed.

How fast do cars heat up?

The following table shows how many degrees fahrenheit a car heats up by from the time that it is turned off.

10 minutes19°F
20 minutes29°F
30 minutes34°F
60 minutes43°F
1-2 hours45-50°F
2-4 hours50-55°F

It is important to keep this in mind to recognize how quickly cars can heat up. Even in 10 minutes the temperature can rise significantly. Even in milder temperatures, cars will continuously heat up making the temperature inside unbearable.
